On Saturday, March 28, 2009 several Spokane Rose Society members got together at Spokane’s Northland Rosarium for Pati’s (Mini-Rose) Plug Planting Party.  Organized by Pati Brown, we gathered to pot mini rose plugs in preparation for the annual Spokane Rose Society Mini-Rose Sale. Pati generously provided delicious sandwiches and treats. Carol provided hot coffee.

While we were there we got a sneak peak at the roses in store for us once the weather warms up. (Can you believe this snow!)

Another sure sign of spring is Carol’s beautiful banksiae in full bloom. (I’m sorry that I don’t know the correct full name of this beautiful early blooming rose.  Someone please let me know and I will update this post. ~Gwynne)

The pots had to be sterilized before use. Pati and Cliff performed this duty.

There were 500 mini rose plugs to be planted, but the happy volunteers accomplished this in about 1-1/2 hours. It was nice and warm inside the greenhouse.

The mini-roses were pruned and potted rapidly.

The Spokane Rose Society Mini-Rose Sale will take place at the Spokane Garden Expo at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St., on May 9, 2009.  The Expo is open from 9am-5pm.

Spokane’s Garden Expo is free to attend.  This is a huge event put on by and for gardeners. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 12,000 people are expected to attend this year. Make plans to be among them.

Contact Pati Brown if you want to help sell mini-roses at the Garden Expo (if there are still openings.) Those of us who have been able to do this in the past have enjoyed it a great deal.
