Ok, it’s that time. You need to plant a rose, or something else, in a section of your lawn. If you don’t have a weed barrier of some sort then your rose will become a part of your lawn. You’ll have to trim the grass with scissors, since your weed whacker will take out the rose, too…
So here’s what we did. You know those Monrovia containers you have stacked up? The ones that your larger plants came in? Get a pair of sturdy scissors. An intact container is one the right, the bottom of the cut container is on the left…

Makes a nice little border, doesn’t it? We just dug a hole and planted the barrier about 6″ deep, so should keep the lawn out.
The rose is Fourth of July, growing on its own root (no graft) from Northland Rosarium. If it turns out that this rose likes the barrier, and where we put it, then it should climb to 10 feet or so.
