The American Rose Society [ARS] Founded
in 1892, the American Rose Society is the oldest single
plant horticultural society in America. The ARS is an
educational, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to
the cultivation and enjoyment of roses.
We include a few others on this page just to make it easer
for those of us growing roses in the Pacific Northwest Inland
Empire.
The All American Rose Selections are the best roses chosen each
year from over 100 test gardens such as our own Manito Rose
Hill in Spokane Washington. Which roses are best for your
garden? Find the top-performing varieties in specific regions
across the U.S. at the AARS web page. Check AARS winners at the
Spokane Manito Rose Gardens and see which winners do best in
the Inland Empire.
The conditions west of the Cascade Range, in our own state
of Washington, is a very different world for roses than what we
experience in our Pacific Northwest Inland Empire at the same
latitude. If you need winter hardy roses or information on cold
climate rose care, our Canadian neighbors have a wonderful web
site sponsored by their Canadian Rose Society.
Looking for the right rose, or information on a rose or
companion such as a clematis or peony? Find photos and
information on thousands of perennials at Help Me Find Roses. This is the best
free data base of roses.
Having a pest problem in your Rose Garden?
Entomologist Baldo Villegas' Bugs and
Roses has the most complete list of harmful and
beneficial insects et alia as well as other rose and
soil problems. This authoritative site is worth your visit
and includes weeds, pesticide, herbicide, heat & water
stress, and other non animal damage to rose gardens.
There are two Internet magazines you might enjoy. These
websites have lots of free information. The Rose Magazine offers information
and education on a variety of roses. The GardenWeb's site
"The Rosarian" offers a compendium of the
various resources devoted to roses and the gardeners who
cultivate them.
The American Rose Society has a The Pacific Northwest
District giving great information on growing roses
in the Northwest. Our sister rose society, Tri-City Rose Society maintains a
great website too.
Learn to Garden - Growing Roses and
Perennials Made Easy is a website with advice on growing
perennials, hybrid tea roses, old garden roses and other
types of flowers. Links to the Northeast Louisiana Rose
Society and their newsletter The Rose Gazette. The site
includes photos and videos to help gardeners.
