Multi-colored Roses from the Netherlands

Date December 3, 2008

I found this on flickr: Multi-colored roses http://www.flickr.com/photos/sewdarnjenny/1389033263/

On display at the LA County Fair…yep, they are REAL and alive! They were created in the Netherlands and are dyed using hypodermic needles inserted in the stems as they grow. Crazy!!

I sent these roses to my daughter for her 12th birhtday. They were out of this world when they arrived. She was so happy to get roses that were so different. They are so beautiful and such an aroma.

They run about $180 per dozen, including FedEx overnight shipping in the USA. No, they will not come out this way if you plant them in your garden. As they are growing, a hypodermic needle is used to inject dye. This individual attention to each flower is why they cost so much. My wife will be thrilled when she gets these tomorrow.
